Top 10 Developers in Malaysia: I Was Right!
Hah! I knew it! I was right!
The Edge website just released the Top 10 Best Developers Awards 2005. They will publish it in their weekend paper sometime in August.
You can read the newsfeed here. The 10 winners are:
- Bandar Raya Developments Bhd
- Boustead Properties Bhd
- IGB Corporation Bhd
- IOI Properties Bhd
- Island & Peninsular Bhd
- MK Land Bhd
- Sime UEP Properties Bhd
- SP Setia Bhd
- Sunrise Bhd
- Sunway City Bhd.
And you know what? I was right! There was no change to the top ten from last year! If you can recall, I wrote an article regarding last year’s winners two weeks ago, in anticipation for the announcement for the 2005 winners. The post can be read here.
Anyway, to paraphrase that entry:
And so the big question remains – who will make it this year? And following that, who will be bumped off the list?
I doubt there will be many changes to the status quo, but some smaller hotshots waiting for recognition could sneak in, like IJM Properties, Negara Properties and UMLand. But still unlikely.
However, I have to say that it doesn’t take a genius to come to that conclusion, most industry watchers would concur. I suppose this is a clear reflection of the property development scene in Malaysia.
I would say the ten winners are still a cut above the mid-carders and the pretenders. After all, no one expects Mayland or Talam to make it, right?

Hada a bad experience buying my first property (an appartment) and the developer is one of the top 10. It seems like other developers in Malaysia are not that different, trying to rip off customers. I have never heard someone buying a new property who is happy with the deveoper.

Seriously how many rakyat can afford properties by the list of the top 10 developers. With the exception of MK, all are focused into lifestyle products which costs an arm and a leg.

Adam,
i can emphatize with you. my previous boss, a seasoned construction man, used to tell me, never pity housing developers. they always give this sad story of how thin their profits are, but believe me, they are making A LOT of money from you!
soowm,
very true. majority of malaysians buy from small developers, those that never make the list…

Any comments on the Bukit Kayu Hitam developer in Taman Bukit Puchong 2 which is constructing the Nilam Puri Condo?

you mean bandar bukit puchong? the project is a JV with the selangor state sedc, so its quite well backed. plus their earlier phases are of very good quality.
