Hope the victim really get its deserved justice in court. After all he is a rising star, perhaps that will make the regulating Ministries wake up and take serious action against those responsible for such a waste of life. What is alarming is the number of violations by the Contractor as reported by the media, a total of 7 stop-work orders excluding the most recent one. Whilst the Government is promising stern action against the Contractor, the Government must also not forget that overall accountability must lie with the Developer. The Developer should have ensured that the Contractor adhere to all required safety measures and also proper work procedures. It was reported that the said structure should have been anchored securely in but was not. What is also obvious is that no safety net will be able to “catch” a falling 2-tonne structure. As such, proper training and work procedures is very important. I have dealt with Developers who ensure that all their contactors’ workers are properly trained and legal. Else, the work will not be awarded to the contactors. Our condolences to his family for their loss. This was indeed a tragedy.
