Poll: Freehold vs. Leasehold

This question has probably been posed to you before. Lots of properties (especially landed ones) brazen advertise “Last piece of FREEHOLD land in … !” It’s no doubt that lots of developers add a premium to freehold properties, and in the same vein, some people are willing to pay that premium for it.

Others don’t see the big deal and prefer leasehold. Others don’t mind, or don’t bother with it.

Let’s take a poll - something different on this site. Looks kinda cute, no? But seriously, folks, vote once, and tell your friends to to come here and vote by sending them this link (which will bring them to this page):

  1. Whenever posible, its always better to buy a freehold property. While it may not matter now when the remaining lease is about 90+ years left, it may matter if you intend to sell it 30 years down the road. Then again, most people tend to buy and sell properties every 5 years these days. Of course, freehold comes at a premium.

  3. Freehold propety is definitely better. But others factors may also affect the choice of property like location, price, purposes (invest or own stay)… and etc. I also wonder what is the difference for a land that encumbraced compare to those not. what is the effect to the property buyer?

  4. i bought a freehold landed property in puchong. there are other leaseholds in puchong too for much lower price, but i believe freehold will appreciate more.

some people say, even if the land is freehold, when the government wants to take the land back, freehold or leasehold also will be taken. if government retake a freehold land back, i believe people’s confidence on entire property owenership will be affected, causing all properties to plunge. so, in my opinion, freehold is forever yours, unlike “lease” hold.

  7. For me, this would be considered after other aspects, such as location, layout, size, surrounding and price.

  8. Leasehold or Freehold, it all depends on location and affordability, if a person cannot afford freehold because of the premium then go for leasehold, its still a roof under your head and can be a good one too.

  11. Price is the major factor to consider. If can afford it, of course go for freehold.
